Death Threats and Battles
You may not realize it, but a movie screenplay has been written and registered with the SGA (Screenwriter's Guild of America). Troy started promoting clean energy very early (1998) in a fossil-fueled powered, conservative state (Kansas). Koch Industries (oil, gas and coal extraction) and many other fossil fuel companies are based in Kansas. For decades, the world's largest natural gas field (the Hugoton field) was in western Kansas. Troy and some of his early team members got death threats, trying to intimidate them to avoid developing a wind farm in El Dorado County, Kansas. Undettered, the company soldiered on and eventually developed and built the largest windfarm in Kansas (Smoky Hills Wind Farm) and billions of dollars of other projects.
Troy's solar company Pristine Sun prevailed over numerous hostile takeover attempts (9 attempts from 2011-2015 including legal battles by hostile companies trying to take over its valuable projects & pipeline). The company remained in business, making a profit in 4 of the last 5 years and developing over $200 Million of solar projects that are now operational and/or under construction. The company used profits to pay off over $100 Million of debt & liabilities in 2015-2017 and was sold for a successful exit for its capital partners and founders.
Troy has been an untiring advocate for clean energy as a company founder & leader, prolific writer (he's written countless articles as well as the book The Clean Power Revolution), public speaker (hundreds of speaking events) and was even an expert witness (pro bono) for the Sierra Club in a landmark victory against efforts to build new coal plants in the Midwest (a key victory that began their wildly successful Beyond Coal campaign, which has lead to far cleaner air & water for Americans).
Troy continues to advocate for clean energy (and by extension, clean air & water for our families). He's an investor in several cleantech start-ups, and he's the founder of Red Gopher Corporation and FloatoRack Corporation (each with numerous patents pending on exciting new clean energy technologies).
Troy is the author of The Clean Power Revolution, a book published in 2005 that describes how to convert North America to 100% clean energy and boost the economy (GDP) by at least $1 Trillion per year, while creating millions of good paying new jobs.
